Sindy Fortín is the fourth generation of coffee producers in her family from the region Copán in Honduras.
She is managing the microlot coffee production of the farm Altos de Erapuca, which is owned by her mother
and two aunts. Since her childhood, Sindy spent her summer vacations at her grandparents’ house. And
while she was bored of the discussions about declining prices and coffee smugglers from Guatemala, she
loved to join her grandpa going to the coffee plantations – the perfect place for playing hide and seek. The
longer your friends could not find you, the longer you could enjoy the scent of the coffee flowers or squeeze
some coffee cherries and savor the juice when they were ripe.
Sindy travelled to Europe and took the opportunity to understand how the other end of the coffee business
works. She established direct relationships with socially conscious high-quality seeking coffee buyers and
learned about the difficulties and all the details of the transaction. Her passion for coffee got stronger, and
when she returned, she established the project Emerga Coffees, in order to help quality-oriented producers
to get fair access to direct trade.
Finca Altos de Erapuca is located along the slopes of mount Erapuca with a beautiful view and the part
where this lot was grown has south-south-east exposure. Within the area are also platanos trees, orange
trees and maranones to be found.
